North Jackson- Funeral services will be 1pm Friday at the First Federated Church in North Jackson for Elven Oblinger, who died unexpectedly Sunday morning at her residence. Elven was born February 28, 1921 in Edinburgh, PA. the daughter of Joseph A. and Austa Simon Shaffer.

Elven graduated in 1967 from YSU with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She started her teaching career as a substitute teacher with the Jackson-Milton Schools in 1966 and was hired as a 4th grade teacher for two years. She earned her Masters Degree in Elementary Principalship from YSU and taught the remainder of her 28 years as a 6th grade teacher with Jackson- Milton Schools, retiring in 1990.

She was a member of the First Federated Church where she sang in the Choir and taught Sunday school. She was a leader for Brownies, Girl Scouts and 4H. Elven was the Founder of Head Start Program in the Jackson- Lake Milton area. She was also a member of NEA, ORTA, MRTA associations, Ohio Council Teacher of Mathematics and Social Studies and Eastern Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

She is survived by children; Joan Ellen Oblinger of North Jackson, William Edward Oblinger and Sandra of Canfield, Bonnie Gail Burnick of Georgetown, KY. and sister; Helen Fry. Grandchildren; Heather Ann Oblinger, Ronda (Victor) Farris, Edward Burnick, Jr., Michael Burnick, David (Kiki) Burnick, Jeffrey Burnick and Daniel Burnick. Great grandchildren; Branden Farris, Ryan Farris and Victoria Farris. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Oblinger and sisters; Virginia Garrett, Margaret Young and brother Paul Alton Shaffer.

Family and friends may call from 12-1 pm Friday at the church. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the church.
